Tata Steel has awarded a major contract to JASO Industrial Cranes as part of its £1.25 billion investment in sustainable steel production. Under the agreement, JASO will supply seven high-capacity process girder cranes to support the operation of Tata Steel’s new Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) facility, a key element of the company’s green steelmaking transition.

The crane package includes three 500-tonne cranes for handling liquid steel ladles, two 80-tonne scrap cranes to feed the furnace through an integrated conveyor system, and two 35-tonne cranes for electrode maintenance. These cranes will play a critical role in connecting different stages of the steelmaking process and supporting efficient plant operations.

When fully operational in 2028, the electric arc furnace is expected to be one of the largest in the world and will reduce carbon emissions by around 90%, equivalent to five million tonnes of CO₂ annually. Tata Steel said the project represents a major step in its long-term commitment to low-emission steel production and a more sustainable future for the steel industry.
