DP World and Asian Terminals Inc. (ATI) have commissioned six new hybrid rubber-tyred gantry cranes at Manila South Harbour, taking the terminal’s RTG fleet to 29 units. Built by ZPMC, the cranes can stack six containers high and use hybrid technology to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

The new RTGs are equipped with automatic gantry steering, anti-sway technology, truck detection, chassis positioning, and emergency-stop systems. They can also be converted to fully electric operation. The latest investment follows the extension of Pier 3 and the addition of two new ship-to-shore cranes, helping increase the terminal’s annual container handling capacity from 1.45 million TEUs in 2021 to 2 million TEUs in 2025.

The terminal is also expanding its use of electric cargo-handling equipment. By the end of 2026, it is expected to add three electric empty container handlers, two electric reachstackers, and 15 more electric internal transfer vehicles. The investments are part of DP World and ATI’s efforts to improve efficiency and reduce emissions at the terminal.
