India’s major ports have recorded an improvement in average vessel turnaround time, falling from 52.87 hours in 2021–22 to 48.84 hours in 2025–26. The improvement reflects ongoing efforts to make port operations faster and more efficient.
Jawaharlal Nehru Port has also achieved a strong position in the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) 2025, ranking 22nd globally. The port’s ranking is comparable with Singapore at 21st and Shanghai at 23rd, while it ranked ahead of Rotterdam.
The government has implemented various measures to enhance port efficiency. These measures include the construction of new berths and terminals, as well as the mechanisation, modernisation, and optimisation of existing facilities. Additionally, the One Nation One Port Process (ONOP) has been introduced to standardise port procedures and minimise vessel turnaround times.
