United Iron & Steel Company (UISC) in Abu Dhabi has deployed 15 Konecranes overhead cranes to handle raw materials and finished steel coils across its production facility. The fleet includes 14 double-girder cranes and one single-girder crane, with lifting capacities ranging from 10 to 50 tonnes.

The cranes operate using radio remote controls, facilitating the unloading, transfer, and positioning of steel coils that can weigh up to 50 tonnes. This process necessitates careful handling to prevent surface damage. Additionally, Konecranes provided a customised 10-tonne double-girder crane, featuring an extended-hook trolley specifically designed for managing molten metal pots at temperatures reaching 55°C. The design incorporates stainless steel components and IP66-rated motors, ensuring compliance with the facility’s operational requirements.

For India’s steel industry, the project underscores the significance of specialised crane systems for managing heavy coils and facilitating high-temperature operations. Precise lifting, appropriate equipment design, and consistent maintenance are crucial for enhancing workplace safety and preventing damage to steel products.
