Kazakhstan has inaugurated a significant transport and logistics hub valued at approximately $60.4 million in the Almaty Region. The Kusto Logistics multimodal complex, in the Ili District, spans over 26.5 hectares and features railway infrastructure, a container terminal, warehouses, loading areas, road logistics facilities, and an administrative centre.
The facility is designed to handle up to 100,000 containers a year and more than 111,000 tonnes of cargo per month. A 45-tonne-capacity crane has also been installed, allowing the terminal to process up to 25 containers per hour. The project is expected to create around 100 new jobs, while a grain terminal with a storage capacity of 14,000 tonnes is also under construction.
The terminal has officially started operations with the departure of its first container train. Located along important trade routes linking China, Central Asia, Russia, and Europe, the new facility is expected to strengthen Kazakhstan’s role as a regional transit and freight hub and support growing trade between China and European markets.
