PSA Antwerp has received five new mega ship-to-shore (STS) cranes for its Europa Terminal as part of the ongoing Project Emerald modernisation programme. The arrival of the cranes marks a key milestone in the terminal’s expansion, enabling it to handle larger container vessels and improve overall cargo handling capacity.
The new STS cranes are designed to serve the latest generation of ultra-large container ships while delivering higher productivity and operational efficiency. According to PSA Antwerp, the equipment will play a crucial role in supporting the terminal’s future growth by increasing container throughput and reducing vessel turnaround times.
The investment reflects the global trend of ports upgrading infrastructure to meet rising trade volumes and larger vessel sizes. For India, where major ports are expanding under maritime development initiatives, similar investments in high-capacity STS cranes can strengthen container handling capabilities, improve logistics efficiency, and enhance the country’s position in global shipping.
