MacGregor is experiencing robust demand for its electric crane technology, with electric models representing over 80 per cent of its crane order intake in the first half of 2026. The interest is primarily driven by demand for heavy-lift and multipurpose vessels, with container ships also contributing to the growth.

MacGregor said its electric cranes can help improve vessel efficiency while reducing environmental impact. Its current range includes heavy-lift and container cranes using variable frequency drive technology, which the company says can reduce energy consumption by up to 60 per cent compared with conventional hydraulic systems.

MacGregor has been developing electric cranes for more than 20 years, with more than 800 electric-driven cranes now operating worldwide. The company is also expanding electrification across other vessel equipment, including hatch covers, deck machinery and walk-to-work gangways.
