Swedish engineering group Cavotec has secured the contract to install an Automated Mooring System (AMS) at Gateway Terminals India (GTI) located at Jawaharlal Nehru Port. This project will be a first-of-its-kind pilot in India, aimed at enhancing safety, efficiency, and vessel turnaround time.
Cavotec will install its MoorMaster system, which uses automated vacuum pads to secure and release vessels without conventional mooring lines. The system is expected to complete mooring in around 60 seconds and unmooring in 30 seconds, compared with the current process that can take about an hour.
The system is expected to help GTI increase container-handling capacity without physically expanding its 712-metre berth. The automated mooring system is planned to become operational by the end of 2027, supporting India’s move towards more efficient and technology-driven port operations.
