Colombo West International Terminal (CWIT) has taken delivery of two ship-to-shore (STS) cranes manufactured by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC) at the Port of Colombo. The electric cranes have a 74-metre outreach, making them the largest STS cranes in the South Asia region and enabling them to handle Megamax container vessels with capacities of more than 24,000 TEU.
The cranes feature advanced automation systems that support remote operation and have been designed to withstand storm wind speeds above Sri Lanka’s local environmental requirements. According to the independent design review, their 74-metre outreach allows them to serve vessels larger than Megamax container ships.
The delivery forms part of Adani Group’s wider crane procurement programme across its port operations. Four more STS cranes are at an advanced stage of delivery, while nine additional crane procurement projects are progressing across Adani’s Indian port portfolio, including projects at Kandla, Mundra and Vizhinjam.
