ZPMC has launched a new-generation wind-resistant quay crane at Qingdao Dagang Terminal. This crane is engineered to ensure safe and stable operations even in challenging weather conditions, capable of withstanding sudden wind gusts of up to 58 metres per second while in use.

The crane features a new structural design aimed at reducing wind loads, including elliptical columns, a streamlined portal frame, and a semi-circular main beam. Its octagonal machinery house is also designed to reduce wind exposure and equipment weight, bringing the wind load down to around 80% of conventional crane designs.

The equipment is fitted with ZPMC’s multi-level WindGuard Safety System, which combines motor braking, rail clamps, and anti-climbing devices to improve stability during severe weather. ZPMC said the crane will also support the terminal in increasing its annual container handling capacity to more than one million TEUs.
