Rostock Port has completed an expansion of its intermodal terminal, with an 80-metre extension to the existing rail infrastructure. The track extension was completed in July 2026 after 14 months of construction.
The terminal now features five tracks capable of accommodating trains up to 680 metres long beneath the two gantry cranes, an increase from the previous limit of 600 metres. Operated by Rostock Trimodal, the terminal currently manages up to 44 freight trains each week, connecting destinations in Italy, Slovakia, Romania and Germany.
Rostock Port said the extension will provide opportunities to enhance the number of weekly rail departures and bolster the competitiveness of its ferry and Ro-Ro services. The project received EU funding through the EMS initiative known as “HARBOUR”.
