Heerema Marine Contractors, in collaboration with Amphitrite, has successfully reduced the Atlantic transit time of its heavy-lift vessel Sleipnir by 2.5 days through advanced weather routeing and voyage optimization. The improvement is expected to enhance operational efficiency while lowering fuel consumption and overall voyage costs.
The optimization program uses real-time weather data, vessel performance analytics and route planning to identify the most efficient sailing path. According to the companies, the initiative not only shortens travel time but also helps reduce emissions, supporting the maritime industry’s growing focus on sustainability and operational excellence.
The achievement highlights the increasing adoption of digital technologies in global shipping and offshore heavy-lift operations. For India, where maritime trade and offshore infrastructure are expanding rapidly, similar innovations in voyage planning and fleet management could help improve logistics efficiency, reduce operating costs, and strengthen the country’s shipping sector.
