Baltic Container Terminal (BCT) in Gdynia has strengthened its cargo handling capabilities with the addition of two Liebherr mobile harbour cranes. The investment is part of the terminal’s expansion programme aimed at increasing operational capacity and improving the efficiency of container and general cargo handling.
The new cranes are anticipated to enhance vessel turnaround times by facilitating quicker loading and unloading operations, providing greater flexibility in managing various types of cargo, and boosting productivity to accommodate the increasing volume of cargo passing through the port.
The development highlights a global trend in which ports are investing in advanced cargo-handling equipment to meet growing trade demands. In India, major ports are enhancing their infrastructure through various modernisation initiatives. By making similar investments in high-capacity harbour cranes, the country can improve logistics efficiency, strengthen port operations, and bolster its growing maritime trade.
