Hutchison Ports BEST has finalized the purchase of three new next-generation Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes from ZPMC for its container terminal in Barcelona. The agreement was formalized during a meeting with representatives from ZPMC and forms part of the terminal’s ongoing expansion strategy. The purchase also comes ahead of the arrival of two additional cranes that are currently in transit and expected to reach the terminal in June.
The new cranes will be built with maximum-capacity specifications, featuring a lifting height of 55 metres under the spreader and an outreach capable of handling vessels up to 26 containers wide. These capabilities are designed to support the efficient handling of the latest generation of mega container ships operating on international trade routes.
According to Hutchison Ports BEST, the investment will increase terminal capacity, improve quay productivity, and help reduce loading and unloading times. The company said the advanced equipment will also support energy-efficiency goals while strengthening the Port of Barcelona’s position as a key logistics hub for exporters, importers and global shipping lines.
