Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) is increasing efforts to promote direct delivery and rail evacuation of containers to manage rising congestion at port terminals. The move comes as container pile-ups and longer dwell times continue to impact cargo movement and operational efficiency at the port.
Port officials are encouraging importers and logistics operators to shift more cargo through direct port delivery systems and rail-based transportation to speed up container evacuation. The initiative is expected to reduce pressure on container yards and improve turnaround times for vessels and cargo handling operations.
JNPA has been focusing on improving logistics infrastructure and operational efficiency as cargo volumes continue to grow. Industry experts believe greater use of rail transport and faster container clearance processes could help ease congestion and support smoother trade movement through one of India’s busiest container ports.
